Reiki is a Japanese system of natural healing, which was developed in the early part of the 20th century by Mikao Usui, also known as Dr. Usui or Usui-sensei. One of his students, Dr Chijro Hayashi taught a Japanese American, Mrs Hawayo Takata, the techniques, which she then popularised Reiki within the Western world.

Reiki consists of hands-on healing techniques, meditation and breathing exercises, Reiju (initiations/attunements), and importantly the 5 principles or precepts:

Just for today…..

  • Don’t get angry
  • Don’t worry
  • Be grateful (show appreciation)
  • Work hard (practice diligently)
  • Be kind and compassionate

REIKI TREATMENTS are gentle, helping self-healing processes in the body and calming the mind. Reiki treatments is often described by clients as deeply relaxing and rejuvenating. This is the first hands-on therapy Dave trained in, with over 20 years of experience and qualified to Reiki Master Practitioner & Teacher level. 1 hour session is £35

REIKI TRAINING is generally split into 3 stages:

Reiki level 1 – First Degree – Shoden (Beginner’s Teaching)

This is the foundation of the Reiki system. You are introduced to the history, concepts, and basic hands-on healing techniques of Reiki. The emphasis of level 1 is self-healing, and the healing of friends and family. Complementary therapists and other healthcare professionals can use the techniques within their practice.

Cost is £150 for 2 days (12 hours) of training, and includes the Reiki level 1 certificate and training manual. Groups are kept small – only 6 places are available.

Reiki Level 2 – Second Degree – Okuden (Inner Teaching)

At Reiki 2, you will be introduced and initiated to three healing symbols. These symbols allow more focused intent in mental-emotional treatments, and distant healing. Also taught is aura scanning and beaming techniques, space clearing, cleaning and charging crystals.

Reiki 2 is more suitable for professional practice than Reiki 1, though it is recommended that you may need additional therapeutic study and an anatomy and physiology qualification. Please note that Dave doesn’t offer this, and just teaches the Reiki side of thing.

For Reiki level 2 certification you will have to submit 3 case studies, consisting of treating 3 people 3 times each. No case studies – no certificate!

Cost is £150 for 2 days (12 hours) of training, including Reiki 2 certificate, assessment of case studies, and manual. Groups are kept small – only 6 places available.

No course dates announced at the moment. You can always register your interest in Reiki 2 with Dave.

Reiki Level 3 – Master Degree – Shinpiden (Mystery Teaching)

Master’s initiation and symbol is given at this level. Shinpiden consists of advanced Reiki healing, meditation, and energy exercises. You will learn to how to give initiations and Reiki teachings to other people.

This level is split into two sub stages: Reiki Master Practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher. It’s up to the student how far they wish to take their Reiki journey. Not everyone wishes the responsibility of becoming a teacher!

A note about the term “master”. It doesn’t imply that within a relatively short training course that someone can be made a “master”. It’s simply that additional esoteric tools are given to enable the student to develop “self-mastery”. Don’t forget the Reiki precept of “work hard” which has also been translated as “practice diligently”. Reiki is about inner practice not ego.

Dave teaches Reiki 3 in a more bespoke way, compared to Reiki 1 and 2 that has more fixed content, and takes into account the needs of the master student. Costs are £150 per day of training, and may need from 2 to 4 days depending on master practitioner and master teacher training is needed.

To book on any of these Reiki courses contact Dave for further information on 07791 042260 or email by clicking here. There will be £50 deposit required to book a place. This will be non-refundable, unless the course is cancelled, then all monies will be returned.

These Reiki course do not have formal accreditation. But what they do have is approval by the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). Dave is registered with the CThA to teach Reiki and follows their recommended format. Click here to read about the CThA’s Reiki Standards.

If you are already a member of the CThA, they expect that your training is with an Approved Reiki Master Teacher. Each two day course is valued at 10 CPD credits.

If you are not a member, attending Dave’s Reiki courses will not necessarily give you membership and insurance through the CThA, as anatomy & physiology and additional practitioner training will be expected. The CThA will accept ITEC/VTCT level 3 or equivalent therapy qualifications (ie massage or reflexology) with the Reiki training up to level 2 for full membership.

If you are a professional therapist or healer, check first with your insurance provider and/or professional association about accepting these courses. Even though there are National Occupational Standards for Reiki, this recommendation is not legally binding with the practice of Reiki in the UK. Every association and register has their own Reiki criteria.

If you are studying Reiki for personal development or just to help friends and family, you don’t have to be a member of any organisation. It’s just therapy politics for those that wish to clarify their professional standing.

As healing and teaching are consistently evolving arts, Dave has the right to make changes to any of the Reiki syllabuses in the interest of providing quality training.
