What is Reiki?
Reiki (Ray-Key) is a Japanese term meaning Universal/Spiritual (Rei) Energy (Ki). It is a term adopted by Mikao Usui for the energy healing modality that he developed in Japan in the 1920’s. Reiki is a form of palm healing, which may involve gentle touch of the body or hands-off working with the body’s aura. Reiki helps to facilitate a natural healing response within the person receiving the treatment, relaxation of the mind, the vagus nerve and autonomic processes that are involved in stress. Reiki has an holistic approach to health and wellbeing, balancing the energy channels, charkas and aura, helping to improve the flow of Ki life-force energy and integrating the body, mind and spirit. Reiki is a useful pathway for personal and spiritual development, deepening intuition and a sense of universal oneness.
What are your Reiki credentials?
I have been practising Reiki since 1996 and teaching Reiki since 2000. In 2007 I was one of the first tutors to teach Reiki at ITEC level 3 diploma standard. I hold the City & Guilds Further & Adult Education Teachers’ Certificate (Parts 1 & 2), and have practiced many other Oriental forms of healing and bodywork – mainly Thai Yoga Massage, Tuina Chinese Massage, Macrobiotics, Tai Chi, Qi Gong & Shiatsu Therapy. This has given me greater insights into Reiki, and my professional clinical experience aids me in helping students learn the best from the Reiki workshops that I offer.

Accreditation & Standards

This is useful for CThA members with other complementary therapy qualifications that wish to become Reiki practitioners registered within that association. Attending these Reiki workshops will not automatically allow you CThA membership.
There are many and no standards in Reiki training, and many teachers are independent of organisations and associations. It’s all very variable. Some teachers claim accreditation with associations that when you look into them closely are just diploma mills offering to use their logo for a sum of money and have no standards at all.
Dave believes in transparency and is committed to train Reiki practitioners in an ethical, professional and spiritual manner, encouraging the student to make their own decision on the Reiki path they wish to walk.
